Applying for a reserve position

You can apply for a reserve position for your child in one of the City of Stockholm's municipal schools for the autumn term between 9 April and 6 May.

You can apply for any reserve positions for your child at municipal schools before the start of the autumn term if you

  • have not received a school placement at the desired school during the regular application period, which is between 15 January and 12 February
  • have recently moved within or to the City of Stockholm and want a school for your child close to the new registered address
  • did not apply for a school for your child during the regular application period.

Applying for a school via the e-service

To use the e-service, you must have an e-identification, such as Bank ID or Freja eID. You can make changes to the application at any time during the application period. There are several support guides to help you use the e-service Search for a school.

Apply for a school via a form

You use the form below to apply for a school if

  • you or your child do not have a personal identity number
  • you or your child have protected personal data
  • Your child is an overage child who is going to apply for a preschool class
  • your child has had compulsory schooling deferred
  • You do not have e-identification.

Decision on school placement

If you have applied via the e-service, you can log in when the decision on school placement is available on 22 May. If you have applied via the form, a decision on school placement will be sent by post to your child's registered address. It may take a few extra days before it arrives, depending on the postal service's routines for delivery.

If you have not been assigned the desired school placement in the reserve application

If your child has not been assigned the desired school placement, you can apply between 22 May and 12 June via a form and send directly to the desired school. Notification of any new assigned placement will be sent via the school.

If you are not satisfied with the decision on school placement

If you have applied for a school and have not received any of the options you wanted for your child, it is important to know that the desire for a particular school does not mean that your child is entitled to a place there.

You can appeal a decision on school placement if you believe that the education administration has not followed the City of Stockholm's selection criteria in the order of priority. The Education Administration strives to offer a place at the school you as a guardian have wanted for your child as far as possible.

Appeal a decision on school placement

If you, as a guardian, believe that your child's decision on school placement does not follow the City of Stockholm's selection criteria in the order of priority, you can appeal the decision. The decision on school placement states how to appeal.

It is important to know that an appeal is not the same as a desire to change to a particular school. If you wish to change schools for your child, you need to make a reserve application or apply during the application periods during the current academic year.

How to appeal the decision

If your child has not received any of their desired choices, you can appeal the decision. The appeal must be received by the education administration within three weeks. The three weeks start from the day you received the decision.

To appeal, you must write an email or letter. The appeal must include the following things

  • Which decision do you want to appeal
  • Date of the decision
  • Why you think the decision is wrong
  • the student's name and social security number (personnummer)
  • Guardians' phone numbers for home, mobile and work
  • Guardian's email address
  • If both are guardians, both must sign.

Send an appeal to the Board of Education:

E-mail: utbildningsforvaltningen@edu.stockholm.se

Or by mail:

Utbildningsförvaltningen
Registrator
Box 22049
104 22 Stockholm

The case is handled by the education administration and then forwarded to the School System's Appeals Board for further processing. It is good to know that the School Appeals Board has a processing time of 3–6 months, so it may take time before you receive a decision.
