International schools at compulsory school level

International schools constitute a special form of education outside the Swedish school system. Teaching follows an international curriculum or the curriculum of another country instead of the Swedish national curriculum.

International schools are primarily intended for pupils who are staying in Sweden for a limited period or who require education based on a curriculum other than the Swedish national curriculum.

Fees

International schools may charge fees for tuition and educational materials. Information about any applicable fees is provided by each school.

Continuing education

If a pupil later wishes to transfer to a Swedish compulsory school or apply for admission to upper secondary education, it is important to determine how the education corresponds to Swedish compulsory education and which qualifications it provides.

Each school can provide information about its curriculum and the qualifications to which the education leads.

It may therefore be useful to obtain information about:

  • how the education relates to the knowledge requirements for Swedish compulsory education
  • which qualifications the education provides for admission to upper secondary education
  • the language of instruction used by the school
  • the requirements that apply under the curriculum followed by the school
